CAPS Promotion requirements
CAPS PROMOTION
REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADES 1 - 3
The following are guidelines for determining a learner’s promotion from
Grade 1 to 3 in the Foundation Phase. (School-Based Assessment (SBA) is a
compulsory component of the promotion marks. The SBA component conducted during
the year is 100%).
- Adequate
Achievement (Level 4: 50 – 59 ) in IsiZulu Home Language
- Moderate
Achievement (Level 3: 40 – 49) in English First Additional Language
- Moderate
Achievement (Level 3: 40 – 49) in Mathematics
- Moderate
Achievement (Level 3: 40 – 49) Life Skills
CAPS PROMOTION
REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADES 4 - 6
The following are guidelines for determining a learner’s promotion from
Grade 4 to 6 in the Intermediate Phase. (School-Based Assessment (SBA) is a
compulsory component of the promotion marks. The SBA component conducted during
the year is 75%, and the final examination component constitutes 25% of the
promotion mark).
- Adequate
Achievement (Level 4: 50 – 59 ) in IsiZulu Home Language
- Moderate
Achievement (Level 3: 40 – 49) in English First Additional Language
- Moderate
Achievement (Level 3: 40 – 49) in Mathematics; and
- Moderate
Achievement (Level 3: 40 – 49) in any other two (2) of the remaining
approved subjects (Life Skills, Social Science, Natural Science &
Technology)
CAPS PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADE 7
The following are guidelines for determining a learner’s promotion in
Grade 7 in the senior Phase. (School-Based Assessment (SBA) is a compulsory
component of the promotion marks. The SBA component conducted during the year
is 40%, and the final examination component constitutes 60% of the promotion
mark).
- Adequate
Achievement (Level 4: 50 – 59 ) in IsiZulu Home Language
- Moderate
Achievement (Level 3: 40 – 49) in English First Additional Language
- Moderate
Achievement (Level 3: 40 – 49) in Mathematics; and
- Moderate
Achievement (Level 3: 40 – 49) in any other two (2) of the remaining
approved subjects (Life Orientation, Social Science, Natural Science
,Technology and EMS)
